I was looking for a light quick read to entertain myself after working on a big project, and I am glad that I stumbled upon this book. The Forsaken Rose made the perfect entry for my new adult-fantasy-romance book craving.I thought at first it would be like another Edward-Bella love tale but thankfully, it wasn’t. Rose seemed smart and rational, although I should say there’s something’s totally weird about James. He appears out of nowhere and he seemed to be able to gain Rose’s trust that easy. He was also way too sharp, and oddly, he concluded right away that it was Rose’s necklace that causes the weird but cool things to happen.
The story is fast-paced, but the detailed description of the characters’ every action effectively allowed me to imagine them vividly in my head. As this is the first book in a series, I’m sure my questions would be answered through the next books. Who is James, really? Like what influence does his family have? What about Mark the landlord and Skyler? Are they connected to each other?
Needless to say, this book got me intrigued enough that I can’t wait for the next books!

This book is amazing! "The Forsaken Rose" is as complex and developed as any 800 page novel. Each of the characters have interesting backgrounds and character traits. The author has done such a good job refining the concept. This fantasy story will take your breath away as you imagine the situations Rose and the other characters are put in. Cannot wait until the next one is released!
This book is one that MUST be read! It is one that will keep you wanting to read, and not want to stop! I couldn't put it down myself, and it's filled with mystery!
This book is definitely a page-turner - it's full of magic and mystery! From the beginning to the end, I was dying to piece together Rose's past and the secret behind the necklace. Wonderful book! Can't wait to get my hands on the second in the series!
The Forsaken Rose is a fascinating story, that quickly draws you in! I was looking for something new to read, and I must say I'm very impressed with Rachel Winters' writing, and find her imagination quite intriguing.
Apart from the quality of the writing itself, the way the author was able to develop the characters so quickly, yet still leave you wanting for more has me impressed. You go into the story with this pre-set idea, based off other YA novels, but you are quickly whisked away to something even more than you could imagine.
Definitely looking forward to reading more in the Rose Belmont series, and from Rachel Winters.
I first read a draft of this and I purchased the final for a fresh re-read. I like the improvements Rachel made to the story and I love the third person perspective of her story telling. TFR has a very interesting change in direction which is a sudden jump from character development into the science fiction plot of the story. I felt there was a sudden rush to build the foundation of the story to come in a scene that spans a single evening. That being said, I've become attached to Rose and James, and I'm now desiring to find out how this plays out. If you’re expecting a complete story, this is not it. If you love character development and want to get hooked with a novella, then this is a good read, and a nice introduction to this budding author. I look forward to, and I'm willing to purchase, the next installment.
It is rare to come across a story that engages the audience with intrigue and romance while still being clean and honest. Not only are all the characters very well developed, but the story line itself draws you in and captures your imagination. You can see the story play out before your eyes without being predictable. You can relate to Rose as if you were her. The story has just enough details to make it realistic but not so many details that you are overwhelmed.
The author is a wonderful story teller. I look forward to reading more from her. This is a story that you can share with your daughter and engage it. It is a conversation start and a book that will lead to plenty of bonding time. The wording, the timing, the scenes, everything about it is a rare gem. Not only will you be hard pressed to find such a story anywhere else, but you will also struggle to find an author that puts so much joy into writing a story that is wholesome and entertaining.
